How to Play Roulette

The popular game of roulette is one of the easiest games to play although some players may sometimes make use of some forms of Roulette Strategies. Although online casinos have developed countless forms of online roulette, the objective of the game remains the same no matter the version in which roulette is played. Therefore it is important that one understands the method in which roulette is played be it Live Roulette, RNG Roulette, American Roulette or European Roulette. Either way, players will be playing against a roulette wheel in any form.

The roulette game started out in the 18th century in France and developed in many ways across Europe and eventually the United States. Its concept was changed and adapted according to the requirements of both providers and gamblers alike. Although its layout and certain rules and regulations have changed over the years, one thing remains consistent and that is the method in which it is played by the players.

The game of roulette is made up of a roulette layout and numbered wheel placed on a single table. The wheel is numbered depending on whether the player is playing American or European roulette. One of the main differences between playing roulette in a land based casino and online roulette is the total number of players who may play simultaneously. It is a known fact that in a land based casino such as the ones found in Las Vegas and Monte Carlo they will only accept up to eight players around the table while online casinos do not usually have a limit to the number of online players who can attend. In a land based casino and certain types of online roulette, players will have their own individual coloured chips with which to place bets in order to avoid confusion when it comes to the placing of bets on the same roulette layout. These coloured chips represent the players’ cash which they would have used to buy the chips with at the beginning of the round. These chips can then in turn be exchanged yet again for cash once a player cashes in his / her winnings. The objective of the game remains the same in any version being played. As players stand and look at the roulette layout, players would need to use their chips to place bets on the numbered roulette layout before a ball is spun in the spinning wheel. A specific amount of time is given to the players to place their bets before the ball is spun within the roulette wheel. The numbers on the layout match the numbers which are within the roulette wheel. Once the bets have been placed and the dealer announces that no more bets would be accepted, then the dealer will set the ball spinning in the roulette wheel. The roulette layout comprises of numbers from 0 to 36 whereby the zero(s) are at the top of layout table in the colour green and the remaining numbers from one to thirty six are placed in numerical order in three columns by three rows. In European Roulette, the wheel will contain the standard set of thirty six numbers in black and red as well as a single zero (0). In American Roulette the wheel will contain the same thirty six numbers marked in black and red and the single (0) zero and the double (00) zeros marked in green giving it a total of thirty eight pockets for the ball to fall into.

Once the ball lands on a number this will be revealed as the winning number and players will receive their winnings according to the bets made. Bets can be placed in various forms ranging from a Straight up Bet, Split Bet, Street Bet, Corner Bet, Six Line Bet, Column Bet, Dozen Bet, Hi and Lo Bets, Black and Red Bets as well as Odd and Even Bets. Each one of these bets has its own odds and payout ratios. The Straight up bet which is a full bet on a particular number has an odd of 35 to 1; a Split bet which is the division of a bet between two numbers has an odd of 17 to 1; a Street bet which is the division of a bet between three adjacent numbers has an odd of 11 to 1; a Corner bet which is a bet divided by four adjacent number has an odd of 8 to 1; a six line bet which is a bet divided by six adjacent numbers has an odd of 5 to 1; a column bet which is a bet divided between numbers in a particular column on the layout has an odd of 2 to 1; a dozen bet which is a bet divided among the numbers selected within a particular dozen (1-12, 13-24 or 25-36) on the layout has an odd of 2 to 1; a high and low bet is where the bet is divided between the low (1 – 18) or high (19-36) numbers has an odd of 1 to 1; Black or Red bets divide the bet between all numbers coloured red or black and the odds are 1 to 1 while the same goes for Even and Odd bets where the bet is divided between either all odd numbers or all even numbers and the odds are 1 to 1.

Once players manage to grasp the concept of Roulette and understood the objective, it becomes a fun, easy and entertaining game for different levels of players. Online roulette provides players with the opportunity to select different types of roulette where the dealer is either an actual dealer from within a land based casino or an automated computerised dealer running on a Random Number Generator. Either way, the player will play with the same betting odds having the chance to win great sums of money. This in turn will constantly attract new players to the game of roulette as it remains the most sought after popular table game in casino history.
